Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Days Inn. About 35 degrees F.

We left the hotel at Holland, Ohio at 9 a.m. and went right next door to the TARGET STORE! where we bought a US pay as you go disposable cellphone for $9.99 (Tracfone), and some minutes to go along with it to get us through the trip!

Abby put herself under her puffy bed just before we left the hotel!

We stopped at Piqua, Ohio for lunch at a rest area where I made sandwiches from leftover roast beef, and we cut up the apple we got this morning at the hotel as part of the continental breakfast.  I also started up the generator and made a really good cup of tea!

Lunch at Piqua. Paul in the driver's seat, Abby in the back window.

Bandit ready to drive the van

In all we only travelled about 550 km today, but we stopped a couple of times to shop a bit, and also stopped for gas and propane.  And of course we stopped at the Welcome Centre to pick up discount hotel coupons.  The weather co-operated until we went through a snow storm in Louisville, Kentucky, so decided to stop around 6:30 p.m. in Elizabethtown, where we are spending this windy night at the Days Inn.  Elizabethtown is on Highway 65 between Louisville and Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The plan is to continue on towards Nashville tomorrow, depending on the weather.

For those of you either coming or going through Dayton on I75, the construction is a mess!

"On the road again, just can't wait to get on the road again...!"

Holland, Ohio (near Toledo).  Quality Inn.  27 degrees F.

Although we were mostly packed yesterday, we still didn't leave home till 10:15 a.m., by the time we packed the fridge and the kit kats and all their stuff, and shut off the water at the house and changed the thermostat setting, blah blah blah.

We stopped in Milton and turned on the generator and microwave, and reheated leftover pizza for lunch (gluten free for me of course).  We decided to cross the border at Sarnia, and got there about 3:30 p.m.  Weather was fine till Woodstock, then we had flurries all the way to the border.

We crossed very quickly, it only took about 5 or 10 minutes.
Border crossing at Sarnia.

We decided to bypass Detroit during Friday night rush hour, and went through Flint, Michigan instead.  Sketchy weather there, snowy.  We continued on through Ann Arbour, Michigan to the Toledo, Ohio area and stopped for the night around 7 p.m. at a Quality Inn in Holland, Ohio. For dinner we reheated roast beef, potatoes & carrots, and had a salad on the side.  Thanks Geo for your good advice to have something prepared to reheat for the first two nights on the road!

Temperature outside is cold, will be below freezing tonight and quite cold again tomorrow.  We covered close to 700 km today.

Kit kats are getting their "travel legs".  Abby complained all the way to Milton, when Paul gave her a new mousie, and settled her in her travel crate (with the door off), and she was fine after that.  Bandit is an old hand at this, he just settles into his puffy bed between the driver and passenger seats, we cover him with a blanket, and he stays there, only rousing occasionally to complain about bumps in the road.

Not sure where we will be tomorrow, sounds like the weather is going to be cold everywhere except Florida, and if that's the case, we'll just beeline it to Florida and give old Elvis a miss this trip.  We'll see, because, after all, we be gypsies ...

One more sleep...

One more sleep and off we go to the House of Mouse!  Cats were interested in the flurry of activity today as we packed and cleaned and organized.  They want to make sure they are not left behind, so they positioned themselves near the door, Bandit under the top half of the travel crate, and Abby lying on top of the bottom half of the travel crate.

Waiting for the storm in other parts of Ontario to pass...

We didn't get the storm that was hobbling the rest of southern Ontario today, lucky us!  Nonetheless, we'll probably delay our departure till Friday since more snow is expected tonight, and we are not done packing yet!
Here's the roadside view of the house, NO SNOW for us today!

Here's the lakeside view just after dinner, beautiful sunset.  Lake is still frozen.

Knee surgeon...

Well, we went to the knee surgeon today and have scheduled another knee replacement for September :(    Thank goodness I only have two knees!

Three more sleeps and away we go! Off to the House of Mouse!
